Corinth Golf Tournament Oct. 9 Raises MSU Scholarships

A Corinth golf tournament set for Friday, Oct. 9, will raise scholarship money for Alcorn County students headed to Mississippi State University. The Alcorn County Chapter of the MSU Alumni Association is holding its 4th annual “Swinging for Scholarships” tournament at Shiloh Ridge Golf and Fitness Club, and teams can still sign up.

Corinth golf tournament details

The event is a four-man scramble, with two flights so golfers can choose a morning or afternoon round. Here is what to know, according to the MSU Alumni Association’s event listing:

  • Date: Friday, Oct. 9, 2026
  • Tee times: First flight at 8 a.m.; second flight at 1 p.m.
  • Location: Shiloh Ridge Golf and Fitness Club, 3303 Shiloh Ridge Road, Corinth
  • Format: Four-man scramble
  • Cost: $100 per player or $400 per team
  • Extras: Mulligans are $10 each, and the Bully Hole is $10

Where the money goes

The alumni listing says all proceeds go to the Alcorn County Alumni Chapter Scholarship Fund. The chapter set up that fund through the MSU Foundation to give an annual scholarship to entering freshmen from Alcorn County.

The chapter’s page says students who have been admitted to Mississippi State can apply through the university’s General Scholarship Application. Awards depend on available funds and are applied as credit toward tuition and fees rather than paid directly to students. That makes a strong turnout at events like this one important for how much help local students can get.

How to sign up

Golfers and sponsors can contact chapter president Heath Barnett at alcorncomsualumni@gmail.com or 662-284-8644 to register or get more information.

The chapter’s other officers are Vice President Ronnie Sleeper, Secretary Brandi Butler, and Treasurer April Hill. The group also holds social events, volunteers at local races, and runs community projects during the year. Its next event after the tournament is a “Donuts with the Dawgs” social on Oct. 17.

Part of a busy fall for local charity golf

The scholarship tournament is the second charity golf event in Corinth this month. The United Way of Corinth and Alcorn County’s tournament on Saturday, Oct. 3, raised more than $30,000 for local agencies. For more events this fall, check our Corinth events calendar for October through December.
