Jacinto Fall Festival Oct. 10 Brings Trunk or Treat, Hayrides

The Jacinto Fall Festival returns to the grounds of the Historic Jacinto Courthouse on Saturday, Oct. 10, with an evening of trunk-or-treat, costumes, music and games for the whole family. The festival runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in the historic community in southeastern Alcorn County.

The event is organized by The Jacinto Foundation, the nonprofit that cares for the 1854 courthouse and the surrounding historic site. The foundation is promoting the night as wholesome, spooky fun for kids and families.

What’s planned at the Jacinto Fall Festival

According to the foundation’s official flyer, the festival lineup includes:

  • Trunk or treat for children, with three winning trunks to be chosen
  • Costume contest
  • Food trucks
  • Live music
  • Hayrides for $5
  • Cake walk under the pavilion, 50 cents per walk
  • 10 stations of fun games, including an obstacle course for the entire family

Murder mystery dinner theater

Grown-ups can stay for a murder mystery dinner theater, “Murder at the Poe Mystery Book Club,” written by Amy Marsh. The foundation had originally planned two seatings but has since announced there will be only one show, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $35.

Seating is limited, and the foundation is urging anyone interested to text 662-415-2815 as soon as possible to reserve tickets.

Volunteers, vendors and cake donations needed

The Jacinto Foundation has put out a call for help to make the festival a success. Organizers are looking for:

  • Trunk-or-treat hosts: individuals, churches and businesses are all welcome. Those interested can contact The Jacinto Foundation through Facebook Messenger.
  • Cake walk donations: cakes, cookies, pies and cupcakes, dropped off the day before or the day of the festival.
  • More vendors selling food, sweets and drinks.

Preparations are already underway. The foundation recently thanked a local supporter for donating and setting out large round hay bales on the grounds for the festival.

About Historic Jacinto

Jacinto was the seat of old Tishomingo County before the county was split in 1870 into Alcorn, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties. Its Federal-style courthouse, completed in 1854, is now the centerpiece of a preserved village that hosts events throughout the year.

The fall festival is one of several community events on the area calendar this month. See our Corinth fall events calendar and our preview of the Booneville Fall Festival on Oct. 17.
