Corinth/Alcorn Park Fall Festival Set for Oct. 17
CORINTH, Miss. – The Corinth/Alcorn County Parks & Recreation Department is holding its first Alcorn Park fall festival on Saturday, Oct. 17. The day will include a barbecue contest with $500 at the top, a chili cookoff, a cornhole tournament, and an afternoon of family activities at Corinth/Alcorn Park.
The department announced the event on Facebook this week with the promise of “Family-Friendly Fun for EVERYONE!” The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 309 S. Parkway St.
Alcorn Park Fall Festival Admission and Free Activities
Admission is $6, and children 5 and under get in free, according to the department’s flyer. Paid admission covers the following activities:
- Inflatables
- Touch-a-truck
- Corn crawl
- Food samples
- Recreational games
The department’s post also lists music, treats and prizes. Concessions will be sold on site.
BBQ Contest, Chili Cookoff and Cornhole
The festival has several competitions open to cooks and players:
- BBQ contest: A $100 entry fee, with all equipment allowed. Categories are ribs, butt, chicken and a side item, and each category has its own prizes. Grand champion prizes are $500 for first, $350 for second and $200 for third, plus $100 for the side item.
- Chili cookoff: $25 for a single entry or $50 for a double entry. Prizes go to first, second and third place.
- Cornhole tournament: Single elimination, starting at 11 a.m. The cash prize depends on how many teams enter.
- Vendors: $50 per tent or space.

This is the first year for the event. The department is asking residents to share the post and tag friends and family who might want to attend. Barbecue teams should note that the contest allows any cooking equipment and that each meat category is judged and awarded separately from the grand champion prizes. Anyone with questions about entry rules, judging or vendor space should call the park office or one of the listed contacts before the Oct. 14 deadline.
Oct. 17 is a busy Saturday around the area. Booneville is holding its downtown fall festival the same day, and several other events are on Corinth’s fall calendar.
