Alcorn County sheriff’s office warns of scam phone calls
The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning after multiple residents reported receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be an officer. The caller alleges the recipient has a warrant and demands payment to avoid arrest.
Authorities emphasize that this is a scam. No law enforcement agency will call and ask for money or payment over the phone, officials said. The scammer may use the actual sheriff’s office phone number or the name of an actual deputy to appear legitimate.
Sheriff’s officials advised residents to hang up immediately if they receive such a call and to avoid providing personal or financial information. They urged the public to remain cautious and report any suspicious communications to law enforcement.
