Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam phone calls

Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office officials warn residents about scam phone calls from individuals claiming to be law enforcement officers. Several citizens reported receiving calls where the caller says they have a warrant and must pay money to avoid arrest.

The sheriff’s office confirmed that these calls are scams. No one from the department will call citizens to collect money or demand payment over the phone, officials said. The scammer may use a caller ID that appears as the sheriff’s office number or even use the name of an actual deputy.

Authorities advise residents to hang up immediately if they receive such calls. They emphasized that the sheriff’s office does not conduct financial transactions or threaten arrest over the phone and urged the public to be cautious and report any suspicious contact.
