The Booneville Police Department has been awarded a total of $965,852.06 in grant funding through two programs, the department announced. The funds will be used to purchase law enforcement equipment, improve officer and community safety, and bolster school safety preparedness.
The department received $750,000 through the federal COPS Grant, which requires no local match. An additional $215,852.06 came from the LEO Grant, a 50/50 state matching program.
Funding will be allocated for police vehicles, weapons, computers, body armor, and other essential equipment. Part of the grant will also support active shooter response gear and training for School Resource Officers at Booneville schools. The goal is to ensure officers are prepared to respond effectively in emergencies, according to Police Chief Michael Ramey.
Chief Ramey emphasized the importance of grant opportunities for public safety and fiscal responsibility. “Securing outside funding allows us to make necessary investments while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers,” he said.
He also thanked Mayor Lori Tucker and the Booneville Board of Aldermen for their support. Ramey highlighted the department’s ongoing efforts to seek additional grants to improve safety and technology while responsibly managing resources.
Representatives from Congressman Trent Kelly’s office delivered the official notification of the federal grant funds during a recent visit, which included officials such as Jack Kizer, Peyton Hodge, and Semaj Reed, along with city leaders.
