Three school employees sentenced for embezzling nearly $400,000 in federal funds
Three school employees from Mississippi and Missouri have been sentenced for embezzling nearly $400,000 from the U.S. Department of Education, federal prosecutors announced.
The case was investigated in partnership with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi and the Trump administration’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, according to a statement from State Auditor Shad White.
White credited his office and federal prosecutors for uncovering the scheme. “We will continue to work as hard as we can to hold anyone who steals taxpayer funds accountable,” he said.
Two former school superintendents and a schoolteacher were sentenced in connection with the scheme. The arrests and prosecutions were part of an effort led by President Trump’s National Fraud Enforcement Division.
