Disaster Service Centers are now open in Mississippi to assist residents impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes that struck May 6-7, according to federal and state officials.
Six centers are operational in Franklin, Lamar, Lawrence, Lincoln (two locations), and Wilkinson counties. They are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The centers are closed Sundays.
Individuals affected by the storms can visit these centers to get help with FEMA applications, learn about available state and local resources, and speak with representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration about disaster loans, officials said.
Applicants do not need to visit a center to seek assistance. They can apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA app, or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), according to authorities.
Officials urged storm survivors to seek help promptly and encouraged sharing this information with others who may need assistance.
