The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a heat advisory and a severe weather outlook for Sunday. The region faces high temperatures and the potential for damaging storms in the afternoon and evening.
Temperatures are expected to produce heat indices exceeding 105 degrees Fahrenheit in parts of the Delta region. The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m., urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity, and check on neighbors, children, and pets.
From 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., areas south of I-40 are under a marginal risk for severe storms, according to the Storm Prediction Center. The primary threat includes damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph, with a secondary risk of minor localized flooding from heavy downpours. Storms are expected to move from the north-northwest to the south-southeast.
Residents planning outdoor activities are advised to have a way to receive weather warnings instantly and to stay alert to changing conditions throughout the day.
