FEMA offers assistance to Mississippi residents affected by winter storms

Mississippi residents in 36 counties affected by the winter storms from January 23 to 27 may be eligible for federal assistance, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The agency has outlined three ways to apply for aid: online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by phone at 800-621-3362, or through the FEMA mobile app, which is available for free.

Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship or qualified status, identity verification with a Social Security number or accepted documents, proof of home ownership or occupancy, and documentation showing unmet needs not covered by insurance, FEMA said.

FEMA encourages residents whose homes or property were affected to apply promptly for assistance. The agency stressed that support is available for those who qualify and urged residents not to delay in seeking help.
