Mississippi auditor announces guilty plea in Operation Payback case
JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White announced that Benjamin Coleman has pleaded guilty to one count of fraudulent statements and representations, related to false certification sheets submitted to obtain unemployment funds from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Coleman submitted weekly certification documents containing false information to collect unemployment benefits, according to the auditor’s office. White emphasized the state’s commitment to pursuing fraud cases and recovering taxpayer dollars.
Coleman was sentenced by Forrest County Circuit Court to a three-year pre-trial diversion program. He was also ordered to pay $2,824 in restitution and a $175 fine, officials said.
