State Auditor announces arrests in Guntown fraud case
The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor says special agents arrested former Guntown Alderman William Daniel Davis and former Public Works Operator Robert Lee Davis on Oct. 13 in Jackson on allegations of fraud or embezzlement in public office.
The auditor’s office said the men allegedly conspired between October and November 2024 to bill the City of Guntown for installing a residential sewage line at a private residence belonging to Daniel Davis. The office said the alleged scheme caused a loss of $9,950 to the city.
State Auditor Shad White said his office has “zero tolerance” for people who steal taxpayer dollars. “We will continue to do everything in our power to find individuals who think they can get away with taking money from the taxpayers of Mississippi,” White said.
The auditor’s office said both men face up to 10 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if convicted. It also said all people arrested by the office are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The office said suspected fraud can be reported through its website or by phone during normal business hours.
