Mississippi counties under burn bans amid wildfire risk

Dry conditions across Mississippi are increasing the risk of wildfires, according to the Mississippi Forestry Commission. As peak wildfire season approaches, authorities have issued burn bans in 13 counties.

The affected counties include Lee, Tate, Benton, Sunflower, Marshall, Lafayette, Copiah, Rankin, Jefferson, Covington, Grenada, Franklin, and Jefferson Davis. The bans prohibit all outdoor burning, including campfires, debris burning, and open flames.

The list of counties under burn bans is subject to change as weather conditions evolve. The Mississippi Forestry Commission recommends checking mfc.ms.gov/burn-bans for the latest updates before starting any outdoor fires.
