Mississippi DOR warns of text scam impersonating department

The Mississippi Department of Revenue has received reports of a text scam claiming to be from the agency, according to a department news release.

The scam messages include language such as “receipt of payment,” “approved refund,” and “redeem your account.” The department emphasized that it will never text asking for links, account information, or financial details.

Officials advised residents to scrutinize any suspicious messages that contain links, request personal information, or use unusual wording. They recommend contacting the department directly via phone or email if there is any doubt about a message’s authenticity.

Additional information, including the status of refunds, can be verified on the department’s Taxpayer Access Portal at https://tap.dor.ms.gov/. Department officials urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious communications.
