More than a month after the Mississippi Department of Education launched a new classroom supply fund, some teachers have not received access to their funds, according to officials. The department announced the program to help teachers purchase classroom supplies for the upcoming school year.
Critics, including a state education office, have expressed concern that the funds were not available to all teachers by July 15, as originally expected. An analysis is planned to evaluate whether the program effectively serves teachers and to identify areas for improvement.
The office emphasized that teachers should not be forced to start the year with empty classrooms or to pay out of pocket for supplies. They urged MDE to ensure timely distribution of funds in future years to prevent similar issues. The department has yet to comment on the delays or the upcoming review process.
