Mississippi teachers to receive classroom funds before school starts, department says
Last year, it was found that 75% of Mississippi teachers began the school year without access to their classroom supply funds. Teachers often had to cover costs out of pocket or start the year with empty classrooms.
In response to these findings, the office requested an update from the Mississippi Department of Education on measures to ensure teachers receive their funds before returning to school. The department announced that funds will be available by July 15, 2026.
According to MDE, activating accounts on July 15 allows for prompt loading of funds, ensuring most teachers will have access before the start of the new school year. The department thanked the office for its feedback and for addressing teachers’ concerns across the state.
