Mississippi educators, auditors raise concerns over new classroom purchasing platform

The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor and teachers across the state are voicing concerns over a new requirement that classroom materials be purchased through the ClassWallet platform.

Critics say the platform limits teachers’ purchasing options by restricting them to a small pool of vendors. They argue this constraint hampers teachers’ ability to buy necessary supplies and undermines trust in their judgment.

Additionally, opponents contend that the system diverts funds away from local businesses. With purchases restricted to certain vendors, local economies miss out on potential economic benefits.

Teachers also report that the purchasing process is cumbersome, involving extra administrative approvals that cause delays and increase paperwork. The added bureaucracy distracts from their primary focus—educating students.

Educators and the Office of the State Auditor call for immediate changes to the system to allow for more flexibility and efficiency, enabling teachers to concentrate on their students rather than administrative hurdles.
