The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor has found that the state has the second-highest car tag fees in the country.
The report notes that the state legislature, counties, special districts, and municipalities all have the authority to reduce car tag prices. Officials say it is in taxpayers’ best interest for these entities to do so.
The office emphasized its commitment to defending taxpayers’ dollars and said it will continue to advocate for policies that serve residents’ interests.
