Mississippi’s state auditor has found that the state has the second-highest car tag fees in the country. The analysis, initiated in January by Auditor Shad White, shows that residents often pay more than $1,000 for vehicle registration.
The audit also uncovered more than $400 million in waste within state government operations. White emphasized the need for the government to reduce waste and better manage taxpayer dollars.
White called for efforts to cut car tag fees and improve fiscal responsibility to ensure government spending benefits residents. He stressed that addressing waste is essential to making government more efficient and accountable.
