Mississippi hosts Gamebird Workshop to improve habitat management
People from across Mississippi and parts of the Southeast attended the Gamebird Workshop at Marion County Wildlife Management Area. The event aimed to teach participants about managing quality turkey and quail habitats, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks.
Attendees participated in discussions, presentations, and management demonstrations led by conservation professionals. The workshop was hosted by Mississippi State University Extension’s Gamebird Program, with support from the department and partner organizations, including Quail Forever Mississippi, the National Wild Turkey Federation, The Nature Conservancy, the National Bobwhite and Grassland Initiative, The Longleaf Alliance, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
The department encouraged those unable to attend this year to join next year’s event. The workshop is geared toward landowners, hunters, and anyone interested in enhancing turkey and quail populations through better habitat management.
