Mississippi man sentenced to 15 years for identity theft

PEARL, Miss. — A Mississippi man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to identity theft, according to court documents.

David Jerome Peek, 45, was initially sentenced to 30 years, with 15 years suspended. He will serve the remaining 15 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The sentence also includes five years of post-release supervision, Judge Kelly Mims ordered.

Peek pleaded guilty to two counts of identity theft. Prosecutors said he used stolen bank account information to purchase a vehicle and other items. The case was investigated by the Tishomingo County Sheriff’s Office, with lead investigator Jamie Reynolds.

The District Attorney’s Office praised law enforcement for safeguarding personal information, calling it essential to protecting victims’ privacy. Assistant District Attorney Clay Cummings prosecuted the case for the state.
