National Weather Service issues heat advisory and storm risk for Tennessee and Missouri

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued an Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. today through 8 p.m. Friday, citing dangerously high temperatures. Forecasters expect heat indices to reach between 105 and 112 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon. Lows overnight are forecasted to remain around 80 degrees, with little relief from the heat, according to the agency.

Officials advise residents to stay hydrated, seek shelter in air-conditioned spaces, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets. The heat wave is expected to persist through the week, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

In addition to the heat, the weather service has flagged a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms this evening, primarily affecting West Tennessee and the Missouri Bootheel. The main threat from any storms that develop will be damaging winds, the agency said. Residents are urged to stay informed and have a way to receive weather alerts tonight.
