Governor Reeves says Mississippi will not release inmates due to COVID19
Governor Reeves said they state of Missisisppi will not be releasing inmates due to COVID19 at a press conference on Wednesday. The governor was very clear when responding to a question about inmates in Mississippi housed by MDOC.
“I have no intention of letting prisoners out prior to them serving their sentence,” Reeves said at his daily press conference.
The governor went on to say that COVID19 was not a viable reason to release prisoners.
“Unlike many other states, I do not believe we ought to use the excuse of a pandemic to change our sentencing structure in our criminal justice system,” he added.
Earlier, he thanked corrections officers for their work and talked about how they got raises from 5-9% recently.
