Iuka Ribbon Cutting Opens J-MAC Flowers and Gifts

A new Iuka ribbon cutting welcomed J-MAC Flowers, Gifts, and Merchandise to Battleground Drive, as local officials, friends and the store’s owners gathered Friday, Oct. 2, to officially open the shop, according to the Tishomingo County Development Foundation.

The business, which already has a following in Booneville, offers artificial flowers, floral arrangements, gifts and seasonal items. The foundation shared photos and details of the ceremony on Monday.

Owner sees potential in Iuka

Owner Karen Gross told the foundation the store has done well in Booneville and that she “saw great potential in Iuka and the surrounding area.” She said J-MAC carries a wide selection of artificial flowers and arrangements of all kinds, along with gifts and popular items such as college football décor.

The opening comes as the fall decorating season and football season are both in full swing, and as many families begin thinking about holiday and memorial arrangements.

Mayor welcomes new business to Iuka

Iuka Mayor Kenny Carson welcomed the store and used the occasion to invite other entrepreneurs to town. “New businesses will find a profitable location and new residents will find a warm welcome,” Carson said in the foundation’s announcement, adding that the city invites others to start or expand a business in Iuka.

A busy week for Iuka business

The J-MAC ceremony landed on the same day the remodeled Iuka Walmart held its grand reopening, making Oct. 2 a busy day for retail along Battleground Drive. It also follows the groundbreaking last month on a roughly $12.9 million expansion at the Yellow Creek Port near Iuka, a project state and local leaders have touted as a boost for industry and jobs in Tishomingo County.

Small shops like J-MAC rely heavily on word of mouth in a town the size of Iuka. Because the store keeps weekday daytime hours and is closed Saturday through Monday, shoppers planning for homecoming, fall porch displays, or holiday and memorial arrangements may want to call ahead or check the store’s Facebook page before making a trip.
