MEMA warns Gulf Coast residents as Tropical Storm Isaias forms

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shared National Hurricane Center key messages Wednesday morning on Tropical Storm Isaias, which has formed in the Gulf. The agency said Mississippi residents along the Gulf Coast should closely monitor the latest forecast as the storm strengthens and moves toward the northern Gulf Coast. The graphic was marked Advisory 3 at 4:00 a.m. CDT Wednesday.

The National Hurricane Center graphic says the risk of dangerous wind and storm surge impacts is increasing along portions of the northern Gulf Coast. It also says hurricane and storm surge watches will likely be needed later today as the storm continues to develop.

The update says Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to bring heavy rain from Friday into the weekend. The hazards listed in the graphic include flash flooding, urban flooding and isolated river flooding.

The same key messages also appeared in a Spanish-language NOAA/National Hurricane Center graphic. MEMA’s post urged residents to prepare now and keep following forecast updates.

MEMA said people should know their evacuation zone and routes, review their hurricane plan and emergency supplies, and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
