MEMA warns of strengthening Isaias, Gulf Coast under watch

Mississippi Emergency Management Agency shared National Hurricane Center key messages Wednesday afternoon on Tropical Storm Isaias. MEMA said the storm is expected to continue strengthening and become a strong hurricane by Friday as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast. The National Hurricane Center graphic is labeled Advisory 5.

The advisory says a storm surge watch is in effect for the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast. It also says a hurricane watch has been issued from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to Indian Pass, Florida, and the post says the track has shifted eastward, but now is not the time to let your guard down.

The National Hurricane Center messages say the risk of dangerous wind and storm-surge impacts is increasing along portions of the northern Gulf Coast. They also warn of heavy rainfall from Friday into the weekend, with possible flash flooding, urban flooding and isolated river flooding.

MEMA shared a Spanish-language National Hurricane Center graphic with the same advisory details. The agency said it continues to encourage all Mississippians to prepare for potential storm impacts.
