Corinth Symphony Opens Season 36 With Wizards & Wands

The Corinth Symphony Orchestra will open its 36th season this Sunday with “Wizards and Wands,” an afternoon of film music from the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings franchises. The concert begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, at the historic Corinth Coliseum in downtown Corinth.

The orchestra describes the program as a celebration of the season’s “musical wizardry,” pairing Harry Potter scores with the sweeping orchestral music of Middle-earth.

Music From Two Beloved Film Franchises

Both film series are known for their memorable orchestral soundtracks. The Harry Potter films’ music, built around John Williams’ famous “Hedwig’s Theme,” and Howard Shore’s Oscar-winning scores for The Lord of the Rings trilogy have become concert-hall favorites around the world. The orchestra has not released a full program list, but its promotions say the afternoon will feature music from Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings “and more.”

Tickets went on sale Sept. 30, and the orchestra has been building excitement for weeks on social media with posts asking fans to share the event and bring friends.

Corinth Symphony Invites Fans to Dress Up

Costumes are optional for all ages, but the orchestra is encouraging audiences to get into the spirit. In a Facebook post promoting the show, the Corinth Symphony asked fans to show up in their favorite hobbit look, pointy Elven ears included. The event poster invites concertgoers to “come dressed for Middle-earth.”

It’s a family-friendly way to kick off the fall arts calendar, and a good fit for young fans of the films who may be hearing a live orchestra for the first time.
