Mississippi Department of Public Safety Commissioner Sean Tindell said the agency will increase its law enforcement presence in Oxford and around the University of Mississippi for the Ole Miss-LSU game weekend. DPS said about 65 to 70 Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers and Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division officers are expected to be deployed.
DPS Special Operations Group, Air Operations and a mobile command center will also support the operation, the agency said. Troopers are expected to begin enhanced traffic enforcement as early as Thursday and remain on duty through the end of the weekend.
The department said it is coordinating with the University of Mississippi Police Department, Oxford Police Department and Louisiana State Police. DPS said roughly 10 to 15 Louisiana State Police officers will work alongside Mississippi officers during the weekend.
“This weekend will bring a significant number of visitors to Oxford, and our priority is making sure everyone can enjoy the game and surrounding events safely,” Tindell said. “This enhanced presence is about being prepared, staying proactive and working together.”
