Presley McMillan’s NEMCC path leads from HSE to daycare work

Northeast Mississippi Community College Adult Education says Presley McMillan enrolled in classes in Tishomingo in 2022 with the goal of earning her High School Equivalency and eventually going to college. The college said she knew she wanted to keep her education going, but she had not settled on a career path when she began.

In the fall of 2023, McMillan enrolled in the Gateway Youth Program while continuing her Adult Education classes. According to the college, Gateway gave her a chance to learn about different careers and explore what interested her as she kept working toward her HSE.

NEMCC Adult Education said McMillan earned her High School Equivalency diploma on Oct. 1, 2025. The college said she is now working at a daycare, where she is gaining work experience and building skills for her next step.

The college said McMillan’s story shows how Adult Education and the Gateway Youth Program can help students who start without a fixed plan. It said students may need a chance to explore options, gain experience and get support while they move ahead.
