Starkville Man Arrested after Toddler Accidentally Shoots Himself
A man from Starkville has been arrested following an accidental self-inflicted gunshot of a two year old child.
According to a press release from Starkville Police Department, on December 15th, officers were dispatched to 1425 Louisville Street to respond to a report of a two year old child suffering from an accidental gunshot wound.
According to police, the child gained access to an unsecured firearm that was stored in a drawer and accidentally shot himself. The toddler was taken out of the local area for medical treatment.
Nigel Cheatham, age 24, was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail. He has been charged with child deprivation of necessaries with substantial harm under Mississippi Code ยง 97-5-39(1)(d).
