Mississippi man arrested after traffic stop in Prentiss County yields drugs

PRENTISS COUNTY, Miss. — A man was arrested after a traffic stop in Prentiss County on Aug. 28, 2026, the sheriff’s department reported.

Deputies conducted a safety checkpoint at the intersection of County Road 130 and County Road 3101. During the operation, Deputy Ethan Hester observed a silver van attempt to bypass the stop sign. Deputies Hester and N’shaun Cameron stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 38-year-old Trevor McCreary of Olive Branch, Mississippi.

McCreary was unable to produce a driver’s license, ID card, or proof of insurance. Dispatch later confirmed his identity and informed deputies that his driver’s license was suspended. Trooper Stewart arrived on scene and offered McCreary a preliminary breath test, which he refused. McCreary was then taken into custody for driving with a suspended license.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a plastic bag containing green leafy residue and a black zipper pouch holding four small zip-lock bags — three with a white crystal-like substance and one with residue. McCreary was transported to the Prentiss County Jail.

On Aug. 29, 2026, Investigator Stolz advised McCreary of his Miranda rights. He declined to provide a statement. The investigator filed charges of possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), 2–10 grams. A bond of $5,000 was set by Justice Court Judge Ray Hall. Investigators Torie Jumper and Kolby Knight assisted in the case, which will be presented to the next Prentiss County grand jury.
