NEMCC Football Hosts Mississippi Delta Tonight in Booneville

NEMCC football returns home tonight. Northeast Mississippi Community College hosts Mississippi Delta Community College at Tiger Stadium in Booneville on Thursday, Oct. 8, with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m., according to the Tigers’ official schedule. It is a North Division game, and Northeast is looking to end a four-game losing streak.

The Tigers enter the game at 1-5 overall and 0-3 in division play. They are 1-2 at home this season and 0-3 on the road.

NEMCC football comes off a one-point loss

Northeast nearly pulled off a road upset last Saturday, falling 28-27 at East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. According to the college’s game recap, the Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead before East Mississippi scored 21 straight points in the second quarter, including an interception returned for a touchdown, to lead 28-21 at the half.

Northeast answered in the third quarter, but a missed extra point after a 16-yard touchdown run left the Tigers one point short. Neither team scored in the fourth quarter.

Standouts from the East Mississippi game, per the NEMCC recap:

  • Xae Mayes ran for two touchdowns, from 4 and 16 yards, and threw two more.
  • Jeremiah Thomas took a short pass 75 yards for a touchdown.
  • Kelvin Walker caught a 37-yard touchdown pass.
  • Jerone Baskin returned an interception 45 yards and made two tackles for loss.
  • Adam Greer picked off a pass on East Mississippi’s first drive.

How to follow tonight’s game

The game is at Tiger Stadium on Northeast’s Booneville campus. Live video, live audio and live stats links are posted on the game listing at nemccathletics.com. With the Booneville area expected to stay dry ahead of weekend rain from the remnants of Tropical Storm Isaias, conditions should be favorable for a Thursday night game.

The rest of the NEMCC football schedule

After tonight, Northeast has three games left in the regular season:

  • Thursday, Oct. 15: at Pearl River Community College, 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 24: at Coahoma Community College (Coahoma’s homecoming), 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 29: vs. Holmes Community College in Booneville, 6:30 p.m.

That makes tonight’s game and the Oct. 29 finale against Holmes the last two chances for fans to see the Tigers at home this fall.
