NEMCC Football Rallies Past Mississippi Delta 35-17
BOONEVILLE, Miss. – NEMCC football fell behind by 10 points in the second quarter on Thursday night, then scored the last 35 points of the game to beat Mississippi Delta Community College 35-17 at Tiger Stadium in Booneville.
It was the Tigers’ second win of the 2026 season, and it came five days after a 28-27 road loss at East Mississippi. The official box score has Northeast’s record at 2-5.
How NEMCC Football Turned the Game Around
Mississippi Delta controlled the early going. Kijuan McMillan scored on a 2-yard run late in the first quarter. Early in the second, Armon Vinson hit Monclair Brave on an 18-yard touchdown pass, and the Trojans led 14-0.
Northeast answered with one big play. Quarterback Xae Mayes found Isaiah Cobbs for a 50-yard touchdown pass with 8:33 left in the half. Noel Mora’s 30-yard field goal put Delta back up 17-7, but Mayes ran in from 4 yards out with 3:12 left before halftime, and the Tigers trailed only 17-14 at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Northeast:
- 12:05 – Mayes threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Wallis, and the Tigers led 21-17.
- 9:10 – Dee Bingham’s 2-yard run made it 28-17.
- 12:13, fourth quarter – Glen Singleton’s 1-yard plunge closed the scoring at 35-17.
Daniel Sherman went 5-for-5 on extra points.
By the Numbers
The two teams were close in total offense: 367 yards for Mississippi Delta and 362 for Northeast. The Tigers won on balance and efficiency.
- Passing: Mayes completed 10 of 18 passes for 161 yards, with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception.
- Rushing: Northeast ran for 201 yards on 47 carries. Mayes led with 66 yards and a score, and Micah Pledger added 59 yards on 11 carries.
- Receiving: Cobbs caught 3 passes for 65 yards.
- Third downs: NEMCC converted 7 of 13 (54%). Delta converted 6 of 17.
- Defense: The Tigers sacked Delta’s quarterbacks four times and held the Trojans to 75 rushing yards on 29 attempts.
Vinson kept Delta in the game through the air, going 29-of-47 for 292 yards. Marlon Fluker caught 6 passes for 136 yards. Northeast held the ball for 31:49, compared with 28:11 for Delta.
What’s Next for the Tigers
Northeast goes on the road Thursday, Oct. 15, for a 7 p.m. game at Pearl River Community College. After that, the Tigers play at Coahoma on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m., and then close the regular season at home against Holmes on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m., according to the team’s schedule.
