Alcorn County remains under a burn ban as dry, unusually warm weather keeps fire danger elevated through Friday, Oct. 9, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis. Tuesday’s local coverage also includes a $406,406.73 road contract and approaching deadlines for Christmas and food assistance in Corinth.

Burn ban continues as Gulf system may bring rain

Alcorn County News reports that the county’s outdoor burn ban remains in effect through Monday, Oct. 12. The weather service’s Tuesday forecast calls for Corinth highs near 89 degrees Thursday and 88 Friday, with low afternoon humidity and possible early-morning fog.

Weekend rain depends on the track of a developing Gulf disturbance. Tuesday morning’s forecast put Corinth’s shower chance at 30 percent Saturday, rising to 40 percent Saturday night and Sunday. Supervisors award Farmington Road paving contract

Alcorn County supervisors approved Cook & Son Construction’s $406,406.73 bid Monday, Oct. 5, to resurface a little more than one mile of Farmington Road in the Second Supervisor District. The State Aid project’s bid was about $10,000 below the engineering estimate, according to the Daily Corinthian report summarized by Alcorn County News. Angel Tree applications due Friday

Families seeking Salvation Army Christmas assistance must return completed Angel Tree applications by 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, according to coverage citing the Daily Corinthian. Packets are available at the Salvation Army office, 2200 Lackey Drive in Corinth. Families should ask the office which supporting documents are required. Read the application details.

Mobile food pantry scheduled Saturday in Corinth
