Kossuth Volleyball Heads to First-Ever 3A State Final

For the first time in school history, the Kossuth volleyball state championship dream is real. The Kossuth Lady Aggies swept Belmont on Monday night, Oct. 12, to win the Class 3A North Half title, and they will play for a state championship Friday morning at Mississippi College in Clinton.

Kossuth High School announced the win on social media, calling it the first time the program will play for a state title. The North Half final, which started at 6 p.m. at Kossuth High School, matched two Northeast Mississippi programs: the Lady Aggies of Alcorn County and the Lady Cardinals of Belmont in Tishomingo County.

Kossuth Volleyball State Championship Game Details

Kossuth will face Our Lady Academy, which won the Class 3A South State title over PCS on Monday night, according to a WXXV News 25 report. The Mississippi High School Activities Association has posted this schedule for the 2026 volleyball championships:

  • Who: Kossuth vs. Our Lady Academy, Class 3A state championship
  • When: Friday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m.
  • Where: A.E. Wood Coliseum, Mississippi College, Clinton
  • Tickets: Sold digitally through GoFan, linked from the MHSAA volleyball championships page

The 3A final opens Friday’s slate at the coliseum. The 1A final follows at noon and the 4A final at 2 p.m. The 2A, 5A, 6A and 7A championships are set for Thursday, Oct. 15.

A Run Through Alcorn County Rivals

The Lady Aggies’ path to Clinton ran through familiar opponents. Before the North Half final, Kossuth beat county rival Alcorn Central in the previous round. The team’s fan page celebrated that win with the message “Lady Aggies are North-Half bound.”

That win carried extra weight. Last season, Alcorn Central edged Kossuth in a five-set North Half match and went on to the 3A state championship. A Daily Corinthian preseason preview noted that Kossuth was one set away from its first state final in 2025 and returned several key players this fall.

Then on Monday, Kossuth finished the job against Belmont in three straight sets. Local photographer Randy J. Williams, who shoots both programs, wrote that it was “always bittersweet” when two of his squads met, and he praised Belmont’s season.

Another State Title Shot for Kossuth

Kossuth athletics has had a strong 2026. The Lady Aggies softball team won the Class 3A state championship in May, beating West Marion in a three-game series in Hattiesburg. A volleyball title Friday would give the school’s girls’ programs another gold ball in the same calendar year.

Belmont also made a deep run this season. The Lady Cardinals reached the North Half final for Tishomingo County, so both of the region’s 3A North finalists came from our coverage area.

How to Follow the Lady Aggies

Fans planning the long drive to Clinton should buy tickets ahead of time through GoFan and check the MHSAA website for broadcast information and any schedule changes. Updates are also posted on the Kossuth High School and Alcorn School District social media pages.

Alcorn News MS will post the result after Friday’s match. For more local high school sports, see our area high school football scores.
