A heat advisory has been issued for areas near and west of the Mississippi River on Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis, Tennessee.
Forecasters warn that afternoon heat index values could reach 105 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, prompting health officials to advise residents to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks when outdoors.
Officials recommend limiting outdoor activities during peak heat hours and paying attention to signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
The advisory remains in effect until the weather begins to cool later in the week, but residents are urged to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.
