Hazardous heat is expected to persist through the weekend in the Memphis area, according to the National Weather Service. Heat index values could reach as high as 109 degrees.
The weather service recommends limiting outdoor activities, drinking plenty of water, and staying in cool environments to prevent heat-related illnesses.
