Jessica Anderson’s NEMCC Adult Education path leads to college

Northeast Mississippi Community College Adult Education shared Jessica Anderson’s story during Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, describing how she moved from a stalled high school record to college and workforce training. The post says Anderson withdrew from school 17 years ago in her junior year after lost transcripts left her too far behind to finish on schedule.

According to the post, Anderson worked a series of demanding jobs in the years that followed, including time at an Alabama lumber yard and on a farm, where she says she learned to weld. Last year, she enrolled in Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Adult Education program and earned her high-school equivalency diploma.

The college said Anderson also completed two workforce training programs through the department’s Integrated Education and Training program. She is now a full-time Northeast student pursuing a degree in medical lab technology while working full time.

Anderson said the guidance she received in the program stood out to her, telling the college, “The amount of guidance was astounding.” She also said, “You can’t make things better in your life if you don’t take that first step,” and urged other adults considering a high-school equivalency diploma to move forward with the program.
