Mississippi Alligator Hunting Season Opens Today
The 2026 alligator hunting season in Mississippi officially begins at noon today for both public waters and private lands, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.
The public waters season will close at noon on September 7, while the private lands season will end at 6 a.m. on September 21, the agency said. Hunters are reminded to prioritize safety during their outings.
Officials recommend reviewing the 2026 Alligator Hunting Guide, which includes capture and dispatching techniques, maps of public waterways, and Mississippi alligator records to beat. The guide is available online at https://www.mdwfp.com/sites/default/files/2026-06/2026%20Alligator%20Hunting%20Guide_1.pdf.
Hunters are encouraged to submit their best photos from the season, and the department wishes everyone a safe and successful hunt.
