Mississippi auditor joins Southeast regional fraud enforcement roundtable

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Office of the State Auditor participated in the Southeast Regional Fraud Enforcement Partnership Roundtable hosted by the U.S. Department of Justice, officials announced.

State Auditor Shad White said the event strengthened collaboration between federal and state agencies to combat fraud more effectively nationwide. He emphasized efforts to uncover waste in government, noting his office has identified more than $400 million in improper expenditures.

White credited recent work with federal law enforcement that revealed tens of millions of dollars lost to unemployment fraud, welfare fraud, embezzlement of education funds, and local corruption. The office also shared its oversight activities of nonprofits receiving taxpayer dollars, according to White.

White added that efforts like these align with President Donald Trump’s priority to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government, according to his statement.
