Mississippi auditor reacts to welfare fraud sentencing
JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White announced the sentencing of the first person involved in a welfare fraud scheme uncovered more than six years ago.
White stated that the court sentenced the individual today and that prosecutors expect to sentence six more people who pleaded guilty soon.
He added that while the court process can be slow, today’s sentencing marked a step toward justice for taxpayers who were defrauded. The scheme is believed to be the largest public fraud case in Mississippi history, White said.
