Mississippi Offers Deer Management Assistance Program to Landowners

Mississippi wildlife officials advise landowners to establish clear goals for deer management and track progress over time. Keeping detailed records is the most effective way to evaluate success.

Data collection methods include harvest records, observation data, camera surveys, browse surveys, and food plot cage observations, according to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

For more than 45 years, many deer managers in Mississippi have used the Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) to monitor their efforts. The free program allows landowners and leaseholders to work with wildlife biologists to gather various types of data, track regional trends, and build a historical record of their property’s deer management.
