The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency issued safety tips for celebrating the Fourth of July amid holiday festivities.
Agency officials emphasized fireworks safety, advising residents to keep a bucket of water or a hose nearby when using fireworks. They also recommended never leaving a grill unattended and keeping children and pets at a safe distance from cooking areas.
Swimmers were encouraged to stay in designated areas and supervise children around water. The agency warned about the forecasted dangerous heat across much of Mississippi and urged residents to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
EMA officials also advised checking on older adults, neighbors, and those without reliable cooling options. They reminded residents never to leave children or pets unattended in parked vehicles, even briefly.
The agency concluded with wishes for a fun, safe, and happy Fourth of July holiday.
