Prentiss County Deputies Seek Suspect in Shed Burglary
Prentiss County authorities are asking for the public’s help finding a man sought in connection with the Oct. 10 burglary of a county-owned shed, in which a county work truck was driven away. The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office is seeking 58-year-old Michael Wayne Wages, according to a report from WTVA.
What the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office says happened
The sheriff’s office reported that early on Oct. 10, a burglary was reported at the county’s Supervisor District Shed at 283 County Road 8311. A vehicle battery and other items were stolen, and investigators say a man fled in a county-owned white 2007 Ford F-150, a four-door crew cab.
The incident was first reported by the sheriff’s office on the day it was discovered. Alcorn News MS covered the original report in our earlier story on the Prentiss County burglary and stolen truck. At that time, no suspect had been named. The new report from WTVA is the first public identification of a person authorities want to locate.
Cash reward offered for information
Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Investigators ask anyone who can help locate Wages to contact one of the following:
- The Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office at 662-728-6232
- Crime Stoppers at 1-800-773-8477
What to do if you see the truck or the suspect
The stolen vehicle is described as a white 2007 Ford F-150 four-door crew cab that belongs to the county. Residents who spot a truck matching that description are encouraged to pass along what they saw, including the location and direction of travel, to the sheriff’s office rather than approaching the vehicle or the man themselves.
The sheriff’s office has not said whether the truck has been recovered, and the WTVA report did not list specific charges. Wages is described as being sought in connection with the case. Anyone who has been named in connection with an investigation is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Why it matters for Prentiss County residents
The truck and the shed belong to the county, which means the cost of the theft falls on local taxpayers. Burglaries of public property also tie up equipment that road and bridge crews rely on to maintain county roads. Authorities have not said how much the stolen items are worth.
Alcorn News MS will update this story if the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office announces an arrest or the recovery of the truck.
