Upper-level ridge weakens, easing heat but storm threat remains

The upper-level ridge that has contributed to recent high temperatures is gradually weakening, offering the possibility of less extreme heat in the coming days, according to meteorologists.

Despite the easing of the heat, storms remain a concern. The National Weather Service has issued a Marginal Risk for severe weather today, primarily south of a line from Jonesboro to Jackson.

Damaging winds are expected to be the main threat through mid-evening, as forecasters warn residents to stay alert for changing weather conditions.
