Booneville Aldermen Approve Promotions, Seek $1M Grant

The Booneville aldermen approved two fire department promotions, a bid for new police vehicle equipment and a plan to apply for a $1 million state grant during a brief first regular October meeting on Tuesday, according to the Booneville Banner.

Fire Department Promotions

Board members promoted Shawn Presley to Firefighter II and Vance Raines to Firefighter I. Both promotions were approved as part of the regular agenda.

Police Equipment and Street Department Hiring

Aldermen accepted a low bid of $11,126 for equipment for two new Chevrolet Tahoes being purchased by the Booneville Police Department with grant funds.

The board also gave approval to seek two full-time maintenance employees for the street department.

$1 Million Grant for Historic Building

The most significant item was approval to apply for a $1 million grant through the Small Municipalities and Limited Population Cities Grant Program. The money would be used to renovate a historic hardware building in Booneville. If the city is awarded the grant, it would provide a 25 percent match.

Grant applications do not guarantee funding, and the state will decide whether the project is selected.

What Is Next for the Board

The Booneville Board of Aldermen is scheduled to meet again on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. Regular meetings are open to the public, and residents who want to follow city business in Prentiss County can attend to hear discussion of projects, hiring and spending.
