The Corinth animal shelter adoption event is in its final stretch. The Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter is taking part in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters campaign, which runs through Wednesday, Sept. 30. Adoption fees on many dogs and cats are reduced, and some are waived entirely.
The shelter has spent the past week posting its adoptable animals on Facebook along with their event pricing. One example is Squishy, an energetic, dog-friendly puppy about 6 months old, whose fee is $25. Another is Thayer, a friendly husky mix about a year old, whose fee is fully waived. Both are listed as fully vetted.
How the Empty the Shelters adoption event works
Empty the Shelters is a national, reduced-fee adoption event funded by BISSELL Pet Foundation. Participating shelters across the country lower their adoption fees for a set period so more pets can go home and kennel space opens up for incoming animals. The fall 2026 event started Sept. 18 and ends Sept. 30.
In Corinth, the shelter has been celebrating each new match on social media, with recent posts announcing “more adoptions made possible” through the partnership.

Fees vary by animal, so anyone interested in a specific dog or cat should call the shelter or check its website and Facebook page for current listings before visiting.
Low-cost spay and neuter program
Besides adoptions, the shelter also runs a low-cost spay and neuter program for pet owners in the community. Appointments can be booked online through the shelter’s website. Spaying and neutering helps reduce the number of unwanted litters that end up in shelters across Alcorn County and Northeast Mississippi.
Other ways to help
Not everyone is ready to adopt, but the shelter also accepts donations online, including through PayPal and an Amazon wish list linked on its website. Residents can also help by sharing adoptable-pet posts so more people see them before the event ends.
For families who have been thinking about adding a pet, this week is a good time to visit. Once Sept. 30 passes, the reduced event pricing ends.
