Corinth residents have through Wednesday, Sept. 30, to adopt a dog or cat at reduced or, for some animals, waived fees at the Corinth-Alcorn Animal Shelter. Discounted adoptions through Sept. 30
The shelter at 2407 Norman Road is participating in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters campaign. Its listings include a $25 adoption fee for Squishy, a puppy about 6 months old, and a waived fee for Thayer, a husky mix about a year old. Both are listed as fully vetted. August unemployment below state rate
Alcorn County’s unemployment rate was 2.9% in August, compared with 3.2% statewide and 4.3% nationally, according to Mississippi Department of Employment Security figures reported by Alcorn County News. Prentiss and Tishomingo counties each recorded 3.1%. The county figures are not seasonally adjusted, and the rate measures people actively seeking work rather than everyone outside the workforce. Mobile lab introduces students to skilled trades
Baldwyn High School sophomores tried welding simulators, virtual reality stations and carpentry equipment during a Monday, Sept. 28, visit by the Big Ideas Mobile Learning Lab. Organizers say the Northeast Mississippi tour, running Sept. 22 through Nov. 20, will reach more than 3,500 students at 42 high schools. Booneville police investigate fatal motorcycle collision
Prentiss County Coroner Greg Sparks identified Ronald Lauderdale, 70, as the man killed Sunday night, Sept. 27, when his motorcycle and another vehicle collided on South Second Street in front of Skyline Apartments in Booneville.
