Arrests Made in Connection with Infant’s Death in Corinth
Corinth- Two individuals have been arrested following the tragic death of an infant in Corinth.
On Monday, June 19, Panola County authorities apprehended Gabriel Girner, 21, the father of the child, on the grounds of capital murder, acting upon a warrant. Meanwhile, the mother of the child, a 16-year-old whose identity has not been disclosed, is facing accusations of condoning child abuse.
Ther Corinth Police Department confirmed that the youth court will handle the mother’s case, with the possibility of upgraded charges.
The investigation was initiated on June 14 when Corinth police officers promptly responded to a residence on Douglas Street, upon receiving reports of an unresponsive baby. The baby girl was promptly transported to a local hospital in Corinth and subsequently transferred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Tragically, she passed away on the same day. Medical professionals, after conducting examinations, reported that the infant had sustained severe blunt force trauma to the head and displayed bruises on her buttocks, chest, and neck.
An autopsy is scheduled to provide further insights into the case.
