Feds Launch Crackdown on Medicaid Fraud Nationwide
The Biden administration has announced a federal crackdown on Medicaid fraud, aiming to address widespread misuse of program funds. The effort targets improper payments and abuse across all states, officials said.
According to reports from various offices, some of the identified issues include more than $600,000 in improper payments made on behalf of deceased individuals in Mississippi. Additionally, between 5% and 7% of Medicaid dollars annually are believed to go to people who earn too much to qualify for the program. In one case, a couple living in a home valued at over $1.3 million was found to be on Medicaid.
The administration also cited concerns over Medicaid spending on illegal immigrants, estimating more than $10.5 million was spent over three years on healthcare for this population. Officials emphasized that Medicaid fraud occurs across the country and called on states to strengthen oversight to ensure funds are properly allocated and spent.
